Privacy policy
Stupid Dumb Phone is designed to help people use less technology. We do not sell personal data, run advertising, track people across apps, or use family information for analytics or marketing.
The standard app
The standard Stupid Dumb Phone app keeps its Screen Time selection and schedule on the device. It does not send personal data to a Stupid Dumb Phone server.
Family remote control
Stupid Dumb Phone: Family sends the minimum information needed to connect a parent phone and child phone: the child label or first name entered by the family, random family and device credentials, pairing state, lock and bedtime policy, temporary unlock state, and device check-in status. The service also stores the number of allowed apps and Apple's opaque Family Controls selection data so the same policy can be applied on the child phone. Those tokens do not reveal selected app names to us.
Security and rate limiting
Access credentials are randomly generated and stored securely on each device. The service stores only hashed credential values. The service receives an internet address when a request is made and uses a hashed, time-bucketed value to limit abusive pairing attempts. This information is used only to provide and secure family control.
Screen Time access
With permission, the apps use Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks to choose allowed apps and shield other apps or websites. Apple provides opaque selection tokens; Stupid Dumb Phone does not receive the names of the apps or websites selected.
Camera and microphone
The shoot-only camera requests camera access for photos and camera-and-microphone access for videos. Captures are shown only inside the temporary camera preview. The app does not browse your photo library, upload captures, or save them to a server.
Calls, texts, and maps
When you choose Calls, Texts, or Maps, the app opens the corresponding Apple system experience. Stupid Dumb Phone does not read your call history, messages, contacts, or location.
Analytics and tracking
The apps contain no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking. Family information is not used for advertising or measurement.
Retention and deletion
Family control information remains available while the family connection is active. A parent can choose Delete Family Control in the app to delete the synced family record. Local credentials and cached policy are removed from the parent phone at the same time.
Children and changes
The Family app is operated by a parent or guardian to manage a child device. It is not a social network and does not allow children to post content or contact strangers. If these data practices change, this policy will be updated before those changes ship.
